Here I am again (after May) on this TUESDAY 27th NOVEMBER to do a few days on the vigil in front of the WHO building. On Tuesday morning I did the vigil with Michele Keiszei from Annemasse. I noticed that there are still people (on foot and in cars) who have come here for the first time : the words on our placards are still being read by people who probably dont work at WHO, but are here for some other purpose…
Anyway, were still making ourselves known…. time has gone by and signs of support are quite muted. Not much to report. A man, quite smart, quite well off, just passing by, asks to take our photograph. A woman (not from WHO) stops to talk and to give us some encouragement. She has seen us here for quite some time… Hannelore phones about the site.
WEDNESDAY 28th NOVEMBER
Christophe Collard from St Etienne does the vigil with me for the rest of the week. A young woman (from the secondary school) takes a photograph of us. A young woman from Finland who works in journalism wants to know about our action. She sees us every day as she goes by on the bus. This time she decides to come and see us and ask a few questions. We give her a press release of course (as we do with anyone that comes over to speak to us. So two press releases each day on average).
We didnt have the good sense to ask her what would come of it, when and in which newspaper (unless my partner on the vigil who answered some of the questions has some information). Another woman- from WHO, this time-stops to talk for a few minutes to share in our action. Hannelore comes by to take the obligatory new vigil member photo.
THURSDAY 29 NOVEMBER
Inevitably our presence is beginning to challenge the people who pass by every day on their way to and from work. A man and a young woman who work at the United Nations (UNO) want to know more. They go away more convinced – with a dossier – of the rightness of our action. A woman was walking round in circles: she was looking, she told us, for the Lebanese Embassy. She finally asked us in a slightly doubtful manner what we were doing there.
She seemed, after her questions and our explanations, to go away just as doubtful and … lost.
FRIDAY 30 NOVEMBER
Practically nothing to report apart from a visit from someone from public relations at WHO wanting to do an article about our action for the next edition of the WHO staff magazine. Really nothing else significant but this single contact is certainly a great deal. The greetings and other gestures of support appear to me to be fewer than in my first week in May; but that is probably not surprising .. by now weve become just part of the scenery at the corner of rue Appia and rue Morillons… ???
Thanks to Carole Bouvier, Jean-Yves Peillard and Christine Kjelberg for their visit and their relief of the vigil which they very kindly did so that we could have a rest or warm ourselves up a bit …
