The 213° week of the vigil in front of WHO
|
On 22nd April 2009, the collective wrote to Madame Chan, director of WHO, to remind her of the duties of WHO and of the dramatic consequences of the agreement between WHO and the IAEA (Click to read this open letter).
This open letter was presented at a press conference on 22nd April in Paris at the Foundation France Libertés set up by Danielle Mitterand.
As part of our action, IndependentWHO invite you to send the following postcard to Madame Chan. The text on the reverse side of the postcard is in French.
 Front of the postcard |
The reverse side of the postcard. Here is the translation of the printed text.
I demand the revision of the OMS-IAEA agreement, signed on 28th May 1959, which puts WHO in a subordinate position to the IAEA and prevents it from fulfilling its own mission.
WHO and the IAEA are misinforming us about the nuclear industry in general and Chernobyl in particular. The derisory figure quoted by WHO (some fifty deaths) is a travesty of the truth. It totally ignores the fate of thousands of victims across Europe, and of the 800,000 liquidators.
The medical profession in the countries concerned report significant mortality and morbidity rates among the liquidators and this is confirmed by the Ukrainian Ambassador to Belgium who stated, on 26th April 2004, that more than 25,000 liquidators had died.
I demand that WHO, in line with its constitution, come to the aid of the victims of radioactive contamination, and in particular the million children living in the areas contaminated by Chernobyl. I expect you to encourage and to publish the work of independent researchers on the health consequences of radioactive contamination.
I demand total independence of WHO from the IAEA! |
